The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has issued a strong statement condemning what they describe as a politically motivated protest against Minister Bello Matawalle. The organization characterized the demonstration, held at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja, as a “politically motivated charade” designed to discredit the Honorable Minister and interfere with his governmental duties.
In their press release, the NDYC questioned the legitimacy of the protesting group, the All Progressives Congress Young Leaders Alliance (APC-YLA), describing them as a “faceless and unverified group” with dubious connections to the constituencies they claim to represent. The statement emphasized the suspicious nature of a Kaduna-based organization protesting against the former Zamfara State Governor without substantial evidence of corruption.
The youth congress further alleged that the protesters were not genuine APC members but rather “political mercenaries” sponsored by opponents seeking to damage Minister Matawalle’s reputation. The statement specifically criticized Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, suggesting his involvement in organizing the protests instead of addressing the state’s socioeconomic challenges.
The NDYC concluded by urging Nigerian youth to resist being manipulated for political purposes and called for a focus on “nation-building, accountability, and constructive dialogue” rather than “reckless distractions that compromise governance.” The organization affirmed its support for transparent governance and opposition to using young people as “pawns in political games.”
